Vance vanishes…

Saying goodbye to Elder Vance

Elder Vance died.  Well,  technically he left the field.  His parents arrived in Singapore on Monday and he had his interview and exit dinner on Tuesday.  Gone, gone, gone.  Dang it!  My new companion is Elder Wood.  He’s a cool guy with a good work ethic and best of all, he can actually speak Chinese!  Anyway back to Elder Vance, the poor guy got a call Tuesday during lunch saying that his parents were at the office.  He was done at that point.  He wouldn’t talk, broke out in a sweat and totally panicked.  We probably shouldn’t have, but we kacau-ed him in the elevator.  We hit the button for the 4th floor instead of the 5th, so when it opened he was basically hyperventilating, but it was the wrong floor and that just got him even more worked up.  But we finally got up there and he was more than excited to see his parents.  So after a good minute or two of reunion he had his exit interview with President.  That lasted for about an hour or so then it turned into a waiting game while President went home with Sister Clark to start preparing his exit dinner.  Meanwhile, I sat in the office waiting for a visa runner to get there.  Finally, at about 6:00 o’clock he arrived.

We have the power!

President Clark invited me to the farewell dinner at the mission home.  Usually it’s only for APs and those going home but Elder Vance didn’t want to be the only non-AP there so I gowns invited.  It was a really cool experience.  Elder Vance and his parents all shared their testimonies and President shared a quick message.  President Clark asked me and Elder Vance to share a funny experience from our missions. I chose the bus story and got some good laughs.  It was a fun and cool to be able to be with Elder Vance until the very end.  He’ll stay for a few more days and tour Singapore and Penang with his parents.  Plus, they’re taking me and Elder Law to dinner tonight.  I was struck at how Anglo his parents are.  They don’t like Asian food and hate anything spicy. But they’re really cool and definitely love him a lot.

Our investigators haven’t been able to keep commitments lately for some reason, but one of them did decide to push up her baptismal date to this Friday.  I’ll get to see another baptism while Vance is still here!  She’s awesome and her best friend is one of the strongest recent converts I’ve seen.  Her name is Moselle.  I’ll send pictures neext week of the baptism.

That’s all for this week!  Love you guys.

Also can,

Elder Moody
