Alright. So, since I’ve been in Singapore we have been absolutely killing it and I’m loving every second. On Friday we left for KL at about 6:00 p.m. and arrived at about 2:00 a.m. It’s only a five hour bus ride but the LRT (the trains in KL) took forever.
The training at our zone leader conference was awesome. President Clark went over some basic leadership skills because every zone leader except two are totally new. The first set of APs went over some new goals for the next six months until the Clarks leave. The second set of APs went over sacrifice. Here are some highlights. Our new six month goal is 500 baptisms. That’s a huge number by the end of June, especially compared to last year’s 816 total. Our Singapore Zone goal is five this month and then 26 in February. That would beat the zone record by 10 baptisms! The most ever in a month is sixteen baptisms. Since we now have the most talented, obedient, and skilled zone that has ever existed I have faith that this won’t be a problem.
On the bus ride to KL we talked to this really cool guy going there for business that had a lot to say about the presidential race in America and how Mitt Romney is looking good for the Republican nominee. We both honestly answered that we know almost nothing about it. He knew that Mitt Romney is Mormon and asked how that affected the race. I guess I’m asking you that question. Is the Church still getting attention?
As for Singapore, it is amazing. There are so many people and the Chinese people that we contact are so open! We found five new investigators just yesterday after contacting for only three hours. Also, Elder Vance has been teaching a girl for a few months and she kind of stopped progressing. During our last lesson with her we asked her the baptismal interview questions and she answered them all right but she still wasn’t too sure about latter-day prophets. Well, she committed to pray about it as well as her baptismal date. On Monday night we called and asked her how she was feeling. Her response? “Really good! I want to get baptized on March 10th.” Wow! Talk about an answer to prayers.
We have three sister companionships in our zone and a each companionship has a brand new missionary. They are incredible workers. So much so that we have competitions with them to see who can bring more investigators to church. The winner gets ice cream.
They are giving us a run for our money. And that’s just unheard of. Singaporeans are notorious for being more private than Chinese from China, but somehow they are pulling it off.
Weird thing. I can no longer tell the difference between mainlander Chinese from the Singaporeans. I used to have it down, but it has become really difficult for me. I look like a total moron as I start speaking Mandarin to a Singaporean, but it’s all good. Sometimes they actually answer back and it’s all good.
Well I’m loving it here and I’ll keep you all updated.
